Simple controller fix!

Sackboy lagging on the PC with a ps5 controller? Here is the fix!

I'm always looking for new games to play at night. When the house is quiet. And I won't wake

everyone up with my yelling on Warzone.

So a week or so got the notification a friend was live streaming on Twitch. Jumped in to give some support and she was playing Sackboy! Now this isn't a game I would see in the Steam store and purchase. I don't know why. But I have been looking for new games. I get bored easily. But for some reason, it had me in a chokehold and I wanted to play.

Then....

My Nightmare Began

I bought the game and immediately got hit with a price tag jump scare.

Full price? In this economy? For the Windows version from 2022?

Rude. But fine.

I don’t play many PC games with a keyboard anymore. My RA fingers don't move like they used to, and honestly, I have no interest in jumping into a flare dodging hell with demons made of stuffing. So I picked up my trusty PS5 Dual Sense controller, installed the game, and pressed start.

Cue the stutter.

Lag.

Worse than I remembered dial up being.

The world was adorable, the movement fun, but those tiny demon enemies don’t wait around while your frames figure out their life. I was getting destroyed.

And let me tell you, I was frantic for a fix, asap!

I WILL Fix This!

I did what any normal gamer would do:

  • Googled it.

  • Hit Reddit.

  • Deep dived Steam forums.

  • Tried the ol' unplug and pray method.

At first, I thought I found a solution.

  • Unplug/replug controller

  • Steam launch settings

  • Nvidia settings I didn’t understand

Still lagging. Still broken. Still mad.

I messaged my friend.

No issues on her end.

Also, side note: I only use wired connections. I won't change. Don't try to make me. I like my gameplay the way I live life. Full of sarcasm, direct, and tangled.

At one point I even blamed my own graphics card and my lack of knowing anything about what I was changing in the settings.

The Real Fix (Spoiler: It Wasn't the Game)

Eventually, I stumbled on a buried comment saying an Xbox controller fixed the issue entirely.

So naturally, I turned to my enabler of all late night solutions: Amazon.

Tina... on Amazon.

But before I could complete my purchase, my aging Gen X brain betrayed me. Earlier that day, my husband had called needing something shipped to him out of town. I went on Amazon to check. Couldn't get it there in time. Closed the app.

Fast forward to my late night virtual window shopping. I found a decent wired Xbox controller, added it to cart, convinced myself I solved the issue.

Except...

I checked out too fast and shipped it to my husband instead of myself.

Why? Because obviously every "I can fix this" moment needs a waiting period.

The Comeback Controller

Finally, my husband returned. The controller arrived. I plugged it in.

MAGIC.

No stutter. No lag. Just smooth burlap chaos.

I haven’t used an Xbox controller since 2010, back when my gamertag was Rambomomx3 and I thought, I was a boss bitch because I played COD while wrangling three tiny humans.

Spoiler: I wasn’t. But back then, I thought I was cool.

For the record, the controller I bought was the Power A Wired Controller for Xbox Series X|S.

I hope this frustrated gamer, saves someone else, from messing up there pc settings.

Final Fix Guide

If Sackboy: A Big Adventure is stuttering or lagging on your PC with a PS5 DualSense controller:

  • Try switching to an Xbox controller. If you can't play with mouse and keyboard.

  • It instantly fixed my lag and stutter issues.

  • Don’t waste your time changing Nvidia settings.

Sometimes, the controller is the problem.

Now if you'll excuse me, I’ve got some tiny burlap demons to destroy. Smoothly, this time.
