My Thoughts on Being a Woman Gamer and This Dream I Want
(A Look Inside the Invisible Bubble Above My Melon)
As I creep closer to being halfway to 100 (yes, I said it that way on purpose), with all the kids grown and flown, there’s really only one special girl still totally dependent on me , my girl Riley. She’s basically my shadow. Bathroom? She’s there. Kitchen? There. Gaming room? Obviously. And as much as I love that loyalty, it also feels like a strange season of life.
The house is quieter. The days feel different. And somewhere between realizing I don’t need to be “needed” in the same way anymore and knowing I’m not done growing, I started feeling this pull to finally build something that’s been living rent-free in my head for the past year.
I want to create a space.
A real one. Not fake.. Not perfection. A space where adults can come hang out. Chat about life. Talk gaming. Let their guard down. Be themselves without feeling like they have to perform, impress, or defend their existence. You can if you want to!
With inspiration from a few genuinely amazing, supportive people (you know who you are), that’s exactly what I’ve been working on.
And here we…
(Isn’t using the three dots the most Gen-X thing ever?)
But seriously, let me tell you something. And yes, that TikTok audio is now replaying in my head whether I want it to or not. Nobody warns you about how much goes into building a website and a Discord server. Nobody. They make it sound like you pick a name, slap up a few pages, click “create server,” and boom HOME!
What started as a “let’s go, I can speed through this” moment quickly turned into me obsessing over color palettes, second guessing fonts, drinking way too much coffee, and Googling synonyms because let’s face it. I’m getting older and apparently running out of words. Or at least the good ones.
Every morning became: coffee, tweak something, stare at it, tweak it again, decide it’s wrong, walk away, come back, tweak it again.
All because I just want to show who I am. What I love. And create something that actually means something to the people who stumble into this little dream world of mine.
I wanted to build a place where real friendships old and new could chill out together. Where we could talk about our lives just as much as our kill death ratios. Where it’s totally normal to drop a picture of your dog, rant about your day, or share what you’re snacking on while gaming.
(And yes, I’m absolutely talking about myself here. If it isn’t sweet and salty, is it even worth eating?)
And while I’m building this space, I also want to share the gear and tools I actually use to game. Nothing flashy. Nothing absurdly expensive. Just what works. If I’ve found something that gives me a solid setup without draining my bank account, you better believe I’m going to talk about it.
Because gaming shouldn’t require a second mortgage. But it does, boy oh boy things add up quickly.
We’re not all out here chasing top tier rigs and setups. Most of us just want our stuff to work so we can play, laugh, and not rage because our headset cut out again. Let’s keep it real, accessible, and fun.
But here’s the thing this space isn’t just for gamers.
I didn’t want to leave out the friends, spouses, or the self proclaimed “non-gamers” who genuinely don’t understand the obsession. You know the ones. The people who peek into the room and ask, “How is this fun?” while we’re sweating through a Warzone match like it’s a cardio workout.
This space is for them too.
Because community doesn’t stop at the controller. It includes the people who sit nearby, shake their heads, bring snacks, or just want to hang out without pressure to play.
Now… being a woman gamer.
Let’s talk about that for a second.
It’s not always easy. And honestly, being a woman in any space has always come with an extra layer of nonsense. Gaming is no different. We log on to unwind not to fend off inappropriate comments, weird energy, or the constant need to prove we belong.
No, I won’t make you a sandwich.
No, I don’t belong in the kitchen unless I’m grabbing a snack.
And if you can’t handle women in your party or on your server?
This isn’t your place.
Period.
This is something I’ll go deeper into in another post, but it deserves a mention here. To the partners who get weird about their significant others gaming with the opposite sex most of us are not here looking for a date. This isn't ToxicTinder. We’re here for laughs, conversation, and chasing a win with people who make the game more fun.
I’ve gamed mostly with men, and honestly? They’re usually the ones talking about their spouse, their kids, their pets, or whatever family thing they’ve got going on that weekend. Those are the good ones. Keep them around.
And yes, I know I’m lucky. I’ve been with my husband for 33 years, and we’re about to hit our silver anniversary this summer. That kind of stability gives you perspective and a whole lot less patience for nonsense.
But building all of this?
Whew.
It’s been an emotional rollercoaster. Every decision comes with a second guess. Is this channel too cluttered? Is this emoji annoying? Will anyone show up? And if they do… will they stay?
I hope you stay!!!!
Because even with all the doubt, all the tweaking, all the late night “should I change this one thing” moments every second has been worth it. I’m learning so much.
About tech.
About community.
And honestly?
About myself.
This isn’t just a website. It’s not just a Discord server.
It’s a little digital corner of the internet where you can show up exactly as you are. Where sarcasm is welcome. Chaos is expected. And no one cares if you’re on your fifth cup of coffee by 10 a.m. while making a million tiny changes you’ll probably redo tomorrow anyway.
We only judge the mean, nasty, gatekeeping gamers. The rest of you? Come as you are.
This is for my longtime friends who’ve stuck with me through every phase. For the new ones who just want a no pressure space to vibe. For the women who’ve had to fight for space in the gaming world. And for anyone who’s looking for a place to belong both on screen and off.
So if you’re here, I’m genuinely happy you found your way here. Welcome. Kick off your shoes (or boots, or slippers, or whatever you game in, me? I hate anything on my feet).
Make yourself at home.
It might look simple on the outside, but behind the scenes, I’ve given this 100% of my sweat, tears, and full attention.
This is why I’m building a dream website and Discord server.
And I’m just getting started.
